At the Committee of Supply Debate 2019 on 7 March 2019, Acting Minister for Transport Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said Singapore takes its air traffic management (ATM) responsibilities very seriously, and will continue to invest in enhancing our ATM capabilities - for the benefit of the international aviation community.
He noted while Malaysia and Indonesia have expressed desire to see changes to the airspace arrangements in our region, the Minister said discussions must fundamentally be based on technical and operational considerations for the purpose of safety and efficiency of civil aviation. He said Singapore fully respects Malaysia's and Indonesia's sovereignty over their airspace.
Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also highlighted the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore's (CAAS) capabilities as having one of the most advanced ATM systems, its air traffic controllers as among the world's most proficient, and its ATM processes and operating procedures advanced and innovative, while maintaining the highest safety standards.
